DPF, DEF & EGR Deletes
DPF Delete Regina
Are you looking to increase fuel economy and performance of your diesel truck? Some of the specialized services Smoke ‘Em Performance & Repair offers are DPF, DEF and EGR Deletes.
Diesel Particulate Filter
DPF is an acronym for Diesel Particulate Filter. It is a filter within the exhaust system of a diesel vehicle that filters soot and other particulates from the engine exhaust. These filters are included in most modern day diesel trucks and cars in order to reduce emissions.
A DPF works in conjunction with the oxidation catalyst and EGR valve to remove a majority of the NOx, particulate matter (think black, cough-inducing soot) and unburned hydrocarbons from burned diesel fuel. Soot is a natural byproduct from the combustion of diesel fuel. Inside the DPF is a porous honeycomb structure that catches the soot as it passes through. After the soot builds up over time, the onboard computer controls fuel injection to allow unburned fuel to enter the filter at measured intervals where it flares off and generates increased temperatures that incinerate the accumulated soot. The result: Soot is chopped by over 90-percent.
Over time, these filters can clog or malfunction and routine maintenance is required to keep the diesel vehicle running smoothly. This is why most heavy-duty truck and diesel vehicle owners opt to mount a DPF delete.
What is a DPF Delete?
A DPF Delete is a way to remove the Diesel Particulate Filter while ensuring the vehicle’s computer system continues functioning correctly without it. DPF Delete kits consist of two major components, the exhaust and the tuner. The exhaust replaces the DPF, while the tuner disables the truck’s regeneration mode.
DPF Deletes increase the overall performance of the vehicle. Installing a DPF Delete can increase fuel economy by up to 30%, and a properly installed DPF Delete can result in a gain of over 100-horsepower.
What do I need?
Step 1: EXHAUST - Select a Complete DPF Delete Exhaust System or DPF Delete Race Pipe
Step 2: ELECTRONICS - You must select an electronic performance unit for the exhaust to work properly with your vehicle.
Warning: You MUST use DPF delete capable electronics when removing the DPF off of the vehicle. In addition, running DPF delete tunes without removing the DPF will result in engine codes and filter blockage.
DEF Delete
DEF Delete is essentially the same as the DPF Delete, however it deals with the DEF (Diesel Engine Fluid). DEF is particularly problematic in the cold climates that Regina and across Saskatchewan sees, as it can cause your system to freeze up because it is mostly made of water. For this reason, plus the overall reduced fuel efficiency and performance that DEF causes, diesel owners seek to install a DEF Delete to keep their vehicle running with less maintenance and higher performance.
EGR Delete
EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Similar to DPF and DEF, this system is installed in diesel engines to reduce the vehicle’s exhaust emissions. However, EGR systems also increase the amount of soot in your engine and reduce mileage and performance. They are also known for causing engine issues such as stuck or cracked parts.
At Smoke ‘Em Performance & Repair, we also supply and install EGR Deletes to help keep your engine running at peak efficiency.
